Guilty pleasures ; )

Look, it’s been a heavy political week and it didn’t end for me there, a friend popped over last night for a few hours, prompted by a Rev Jackson e-mail she’d sent me. I’d responded by saying, ‘let’s have drinks and talk racism and politics sometime soon’…she took me up on that idea very quickly : ) & TC it was my pleasure to do hangtime with you, my sistah : ) and fellow world citizen.

And so to lighten the mood for the weekend, I thought I’d do that self-disclosure thing I’m getting so good at : ) why hide, people will either dig me or not, no guilty pleasure admission is going to change that, is it?

Probably not, so…

Yeah, we all have them, guilty pleasures. I have many, hey, what can I say…I have already stated here that I am NOT into deprivation, so there, that’s my disclaimer : )

One of my favorites is this: I drive around Palos Verdes about once a week. I think I’ve mentioned that I’m originally from the constitution state, Connecticut, and I took the girl out of CT (and more specifically, the Port, thank the Gods…) but you cannot take the CT out of the girl, unfortunately.

I miss the greenery always and sometimes worst than others. I must’ve gotten a hyper set of eyeball ‘rods and cones’…my ‘rods’ make my eyes soooo sensitive to that big bright light in sky that I must wear shades at all times and my cones, those little color sensors, well, mine are working overtime in there in the natural green/red departments especially.

Today, on my drive by, I stopped and took these pictures, the place just snagged my attention, standing there in all it’s CT yankee-ness complete with it’s American flag flying proudly in the front yard. In CT there would’ve been an acre or so of rolling lawn, but this version is close.

The name of the street? Dauntless!

Hmmm…let’s just see what that word means, hahaha, oh yes, ‘…incapable of being intimidated or discouraged; fearless…’

I love that…in fact, it’s my new ‘word’ – dauntless…

Hmmm, the ‘dauntless’ dreamer…it that better than edgy1 or edgy dreamer…?

But, back to guilty pleasures…here’s a few others…
* I’m not much into processed sugar 95% of the time but once in a while I have carrot cake or German chocolate cake, for lunch, hahaha, sooo bad, so veeeery naughty, and so f**king good : )
* If I’m in my car around noonish, I secretly (well, not anymore!) flip between Randi Rhodes on progressive Air America and Sean Hannity on conservative KABC talk radio, she’s funny and rants well in that NYC accent I often miss and he’s such a sarcastic windbag…why do I get my kicks this way? No idea…I just roll with it…maybe it’s part of my need to know ‘both sides of the story’ personality? oh whatever…
* ugh, and this is horrible I know, but I dig a cig after a few drinks, there I actually said it, I usually hide this one, but wtf, why not just cop to it, someday I’ll break this really stupid semi-habit.
* I have several other ‘guilty pleasures,’ but you know, some things are personal ; )

We all have them I know, but have you ever told anyone what any of yours are? Or is it a secret? Are they no longer pleasurable bc you share them? If so, damn, I just blew it…!

PS I’ll still enjoy my joy rides, et al, though I admit I do miss a stick shift on those tight and/or sweeping curves in PV. Oh yeah, that’s my other GP, I love to drive fast, but ONLY when I’m alone, and that’s a strict policy : ) so don’t even ask me to hit it when you’re in the car, it won’t happen…

P, T & J, I’ll be adding my pic again next week, thought I’d let everyone have a break from my ‘form’ for a moment, you know, concentrate on the words : )

Hey ZL: It was good to speak to you today if only for a moment. Thank you for your marketing assistance. I will definitely check into cafe press.
I see that Ghazala Khan contacted you – cool – I am looking forward to reading your interview!

I like your entry today and the pics; It’s nice to lighten it up every once in awhile. Guilty pleasures…hmm…I’m not sure I feel guilty for any of the pleasures that are ‘not good’ so to speak. God am I being too good of a girl ( I don’t think so!) or I am just over being guilty about anything. I’ll take the latter thank you. That being said, I love eating dessert first when I go out to dinner; no guilt there. A good clove cig is always nice but no guilt there. I might feel a tad guilty when I spend too much, but lately that hasn’t been an issue…darn. Although acquiring stuff does not give me the good feelings it used to as short lived as they were.

oh by the way when you visit next weekend I will take you to a swedish bakery down the street and you can try their german chocolate cake. Oh and we must go to Bake Sale Betty…ah so many good things to eat while you’re visiting not to mention the ‘cow’ :) Can’t wait to see you in person.

    Love,
    Michelle

    ZL,
I love to drive around, as well. It gives me time to think and ponder as I meander through the streets in one of the most beautiful areas in the world!! Enjoying a great glass of wine is always a big hit for me!

One of my most guilty pleasures would be…taking some time for myself. Talk about guilt!
